The Best Place to See the Full Moon this Fall

In August, the Bay Area’s Full Moon aligns with the Weekend. Same with September!

Schooner Freda B is well-known for monthly full moon sails on San Francisco Bay. Board in beautiful Sausalito during the golden hour and start your evening with a sunset sail. As the wind calms down, enjoy twilight and the moonrise over the Berkeley hills. In an area with millions of people, we’re often the only boat within sight.

The stillness of the evening makes it easy to unwind and enjoy the views. Whether enjoying a warm drink or simply watching the moonlight on the water, it’s a quiet and memorable way to experience the San Francisco Bay.

Take in views of San Francisco, the Golden Gate Bridge, Bay Bridge, Marin Headlands, Alcatraz, and Angel Island, all while experiencing the magic of sunset and moonrise from the water.

August “Sturgeon Moon”

The fishing tribes are given credit for the naming of this Moon, since sturgeon, a large fish of the Great Lakes and other major bodies of water, were most readily caught during this month.

Sturgeon are often called “living fossils” because they have existed for over 200 million years with relatively little change. Sturgeons are also known for their remarkably long lifespans, with some species living over 100 years

September “Corn Moon”

September’s full moon occurs right around the time when major crops are harvested in North America: corn, pumpkins, squash, beans, and other dietary staples.

Some years it’s also known as the Harvest Moon, but in 2025 that happens in October!
