SF Bay Sunset Sails for the Fall Equinox

In 2025 the Autumn Equinox falls on September 22. We have sunset sails to celebrate on San Francisco Bay!

Join us aboard Schooner Freda B for our special once-a-year sunset sail in honor of the Autumn Equinox. The equinox is the time of year when the day is as exactly as long as the night, a moment of celestial balance. The Autumn Equinox holds symbolic importance, signifying a transition in nature and a moment of equilibrium.

Though Autumn eventually brings cooler temperatures, in the San Francisco Bay it usually falls in the middle of our “Second Summer.” If anything, conditions on the Bay can be just as comfortable if not warmer than the actual summer.

In addition to a sunset sail on the Monday 9/22 equinox, Schooner Freda B is hosting Saturday Sunset Sails and Wildlife Sails almost every week. It’s truly a marvelous time of year to sail SF Bay, we hope you can join us!

Board in downtown Sausalito and cruise around iconic parts of the Bay. Sights often include Alcatraz, Angel Island, the Marin Headlands, the Golden Gate Bridge, the Bay Bridge, and the San Francisco Skyline, all from the special vantage of the water!

September “Harvest Moon”

The storied “Harvest Moon” is the full moon that’s closest to the Autumn Equinox. On some years it’s in September, but in 2025 the Harvest Moon happens in October!

Farmers used the light from this full moon to their advantage, harvesting late into the night before the coming winter. There are also many songs that honor this fabled moon, you can probably name at least one.
