Have you ever been interested in sailing, but too nervous to actually try it? Freda B Public Sails are designed to welcome guests of all interest levels and to help introduce sailing to those who would normally not be exposed. This is a way for our crew to showcase how amazing sailing is and to help our guests partake in this one-of-a-kind experience. We love answering questions from curious guests and helping guests understand a bit more about life on the water.
Public sails on the SF Bay are an ideal way to see more of the Golden Gate and beyond. Step aboard one of our popular weekly excursions on the comfortable and majestic Schooner Freda B. Whether you prefer a morning eco-sails with the family, a romantic sunset sail with your sweetie, or a big holiday celebration like a fireworks cruise; we have it all.
Our public sails go out weekly on Saturdays and Sundays. If you have a larger group and would like a private sail, we offer that as well!
Commonly Asked Questions…
Q: Do we sail rain or shine?
A. We operate rain or shine in light rain, mist, fog, and wind.
We do not typically experience extreme weather during the sailing season.
Our Port Captain continuously monitors the weather as part of his professional responsibilities to the vessel and client. He is the only person who may cancel a charter due to the weather. If there is extreme weather and our captain deems it unsafe to operate we will offer a refund and/or a reschedule. Extreme weather in the Bay Area is categorized as heavy rain and/or strong wind. We will contact you, the client, 72-24 hours before your event in such cases.
Q. What should I wear?
A. For maximum comfort bring and/or wear warm, layering clothing, a jacket, and a warm hat. If you are sailing during the day or at sunset sunglasses are a good idea. We offer fleece-lined deck blankets for our guests to use while on board as well.
Q. Will I get seasick?
A. The Freda B is a large and comfortable vessel. She provides a safe and smooth ride through the seas. Unlike many types of fishing boats that buck in the current or small sailboats that heel excessively, the Freda B glides nicely for a safe and sturdy ride.
If you are susceptible to motion sickness be sure to take the necessary precautions. We do not provide seasickness medication. Individuals worried about motion sickness are welcome to purchase medication and follow the directions before sailing. We have deliciously strong Reed’s Ginger Beer (non-alcoholic) at our bar if you are feeling a bit unsettled during the sail.
